Coron Town is located on Busuanga Island in the North part of Palawan. It is famous for the jump off point for island hopping to the stunning Limestone Coron Island, ancestral lands of the Tagbanwa tribe. Most of the island is completely inaccesable due to the razor sharp limestone or tribal villages off limits to visitors. However the north cost of the island next to Coron Town is open to tourists to visit the Kayangan lake, Barracuda lake and the twin lagoons.
Coron is also famous for Diving. There are some of the most healthy corals in Palawan, but also the 17 Japanese shipwrecks that were sunk by the Americans towards the end of the Second World War. For more info and recommendations on what to do in Coron check out our Travel Guide.

WHAT TO DO IN CORON TOWN
Coron Town itself is not the prettiest place and does not have a public beach like El Nido. But for what Coron lacks above water it makes up for below water. You can hire motorbikes and drive around the island. However we recommend doing this in El Nido on the mainland because there are so many more beaches to access there. Whilst in Coron focus on island hopping and Scba Diving.
- Shipwreck diving from Sangat Island Dive Resort , or reggae Divers from Town
The reefs in the Coron area are some of the most healthy in Palawan. At the end of WWII , the U.S attacked the Japanese Imperial fleet and sunk 17 war ships. Now these rusting giants lay covered in corals waiting to be explored. There are many dive shops operating out of Coron town and the surrounding resorts.
The best place to stay if you are a keen diver is Sangat Island Dive Resort. It is located on Sangat Island which is right next to many of the shipwrecks. They have native style villas on a beautiful private white sand beach. They have a dive shop onsite so you can kit up, hop on a speed boat and be in the water within 5 minutes. After your dive, back onboard and return to the resort to chill and have some lunch.
The alternative is to stay in town and join one of the dive shops, which are less expensive but the travel time between town and the shipwrecks on a Bangka can take 1.5hours, so you will be onboard all day to do 2 dives. If you choose this option there are many dive shops in Town. Some recommendations :
- Reggae divers
- XXX
- Island hopping to Coron Island [avoid the crowds, morning light in lakes and lagoons]
For most of the island hopping you have to take a day boat over to Coron Island. This is the same geology as the islands of El Nido Bacuit bay, with many lagoons, white sand beaches and picnic spots. Also on the island are 2 fresh water lakes, with brakish water hot springs at the bottom. The water is crystal clear and is a must for any free diving enthusiasts. You can also scuba dive in the lakes, which involves passing through a thermocline where the cool fresh water meets the warm brakish water. Try to arrive early as possible in the lakes to enjoy the morning sunlight illuminating the water, before the hoards of tourists arrive mid morning.
- Kayak trips [tribal adventure ]
If you’re up for the adventure the best way to see the hi lights of Coron Island is on Kayak with Tribal Adventures. You can really explore every nook and cranny of the jagged limestone coast of the island. This slow paced adventure allows you to really absorb the magic of the island. They can also arrange a boat drop off and pick up so you don’t have to kayak all the way from town.
- Siete Pecados marine sanctuary without out taking a boat
If you are on a budget or short on time, we suggest to rent some snorkels and fins from town, get a tricycle to XXX. From here you can snorkel 7 small rocky islets located just a few hundred meters off the coast.
- Motorbike to Busuanga town and Ocam Ocam
Rent motorbikes and discover the west side of Busuanga. It’s quite a drive out to the first beach ….,
