El Nido is famous for its island hopping in the Bacuit bay. However during high season the destinations can get very crowded with so many boats, packed with hundreds of day trippers.
- Kayak or island hop to Cadlao Island
To avoid the crowds we suggest to rent a private boat and island hop around Cadlao Island.[sometimes called Tour D], It’s surrounded by many beautiful beaches and Cadlao Lagoon. This is the island you can see from El Nido Town so it’s not far. We suggest to have a relaxing morning and leave late, the dispatch for the island hopping boats from town can take up to 2 hours, so to avoid this just book a half day tour.
You can also Kayak here from town. Artcafe have kayaks for rent. From Town Kayak North, be careful to cross the channel over to Cadlao, there may be lots of passing boats and the wind can get strong blowing between the cliffs. When you are on the other side, head left [clockwise] and enjoy the quiet beaches until you get to Cadlao Lagoon. If you are feeling adventurous then keep going to the next beach, but for most people that’s enough and time to start heading back. Wear sun protection and take a pack lunch and plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Rent a Motorbike to Nacpan, waterfalls
Rent a motorbike and head north of El Nido Town.
LIO BEACH
Heading North of El Nido is Lio Beach resort development where the Airport is located. There are shops, restaurants and a public beach. But if you are exploring the coast by motorbike, then we suggest visiting here for the amazing sunset at the end of the day, where you will be closer to town so you are not driving too far in the dark.
BULALACAO WATERFALLS
Continue along the road and pass through Lamao where you will see the little fish market, the road curves to the right and you will see a bridge on the left. Go straight ahead to the signs for Bulalacao Waterfalls. Turn left upon the newly cemented road where you will park your bike. There is a 25 min trek through the forest before you reach the falls for a refreshing swim.
NACPAN BEACH
Nacpan beach is, the longest beach in El Nido. Certain times of year you can rent a board and surf here but be careful of rip tides during strong weather. There are usually notices to tell you if it’s safe to swim in the water or not. There are a few places to get a drink and a snacks.
- Surf in Dili and Dagmay
DULI BEACH
If Nacpan is too touristy for you then head north still to Duli beach. It’s an undeveloped surfers hang out and one of the coolest vibes in El Nido. Be warned that parts of the road gets rough and can be quite tricky if it’s been raining.
BUCANA VILLAGE
Before the turning to Duli Beach, continue along the road to the village of Bucana. It’s a beautiful fishing village in a sheltered river estuary with a hanging bridge to pass to the other side. Get some snacks here and continue on to Duli Beach.
Depending on how long you spend soaking up the vibes in Duli It may be time to head back to El Nido [via the waterfalls for a fresh water rinse , or to Lio Beach for sunset]
Or continue north along the coast visiting the super remote beaches of Dagmay and XXX
Just remember to leave enough time to get back before dark.
- Dive Sibaltan with Manta Ray Cleaning Station
SIBALTAN
One of the best dive recommendations outside of the Coron area is a day out with Dive Sibaltan. They opened up a dive shop in 2017 to explore the remote reefs on the East side of the island. Soon after they firing a Manta Ray cleaning station and some healthy coral reefs in the area. The crew running Dive Sibaltan are good friends of Tao. You can arrange transport to and from El Nido or stay with them in their beach accommodation in Sibaltan.
- Daracouton Bay with tao
DARACOUTON BAY
Back on the main road, keep going north and just after the turning for Taniguiban you will pass a point overlooking Daracounton Bay and the stunning Daracouton Island. Keep on the road past San Fernando village and their High school. Take a left on the corner and drive down to San Fernando Pier [or ‘Pantalan’ if you are asking a local for directions]. Park your bikes here and walk along the path on the coast to Tao Farm. From here you can stay and hang all day, get some lunch and island hop over to Daracouton Island where Tao has a basecamp also. Tao Farm is also open for Bed and breakfast so you don’t have to rush back to El Nido in the same day.
